WELCOME TO OLETUKAT RANCH & CONSERVANCY

We are located within the Masai Mara ecosystem 20 km/12 miles from the town of Narok in Kenya. We have leased and registered over 450 hectares (about 1200 acres) of land along the Ewaso Ngiro river.

OBJECTIVES

  • Protect an area of over 450 hectares (1200 acres) along the Ewaso Ngiro so that nature heals itself after years of mistreatment. To allow all forms of life to return to the protected land.
  • Increase the size of the ranch/conservancy by leasing additional land from willing land-owners around the existing ranch.
  • Undertake a land/grass management program using cattle (cows and goats) to maximize the grass coverage and clear the unwanted shrubs.
  • Undertake a boutique type tourism, for people who prefer to be off the beaten track, but comfortable.

GRAND KOUDOU VILLA ACCOMMONDATION

We offer to our guests at Grand Koudou Villa:

  • Three bungalows of about 25m2 each, equipped with a double bed and a single bed, plus a bathroom with hot water shower, washbasin, and toilet. The 3 bungalows have a nice view over the canyon where the river flows and a private view point and sitting room to enjoy the wilderness.
  • Two fairly large tents are sharing a washroom with hot water shower and separate toilet, 10 to 15 meters away.
  • A pergola/eating room along the villa with a nice panorama through large glasses.
  • The main room of the house where people can gather.
  • A camp fire place at night.
  • Electricity is coming from solar panels so hair driers cannot be used.

We are leasing some 450 hectares (1200 acres) for the moment, but there is much more land around which is not developed by humans, except that it is badly overgrazed and trees are cut for charcoal. After close to 4 years of conservation, we are seeing major improvements on our ranch/conservancy: grass is growing back; trees are protected, erosion, which is a major problem, is slowed down. And wildlife is coming back

EDUCATION

The cost of education is a real challenge for many families in this very poor maasai village, and in many cases, the children simply do not go to school because the parents cannot pay the fees.

Our Company is sponsoring 15 children, 8 in primary, 7 in secondary, when the need for sponsoring is much more important in Oletukat alone. We cannot afford to do more than that number but we invite people interested in the education problems to join us in our effort.  Please contact Jackson Matipe if you wish to help on this.
